 PIANO SOLO

Gottfried Böttger’s concert repertoire spans from Ragtime, one of Jazz music’s original roots, through Blues and Boogie-Woogie to Swing.  Classics such as the “Maple Leaf Rag”, standards like “Sweet Georgia Brown” and homages to such artists as Thomas “Fats” Waller (“Honeysuckle Rose”) are elaborated with brief explanations.

At the tender age of 6, the Hamburg pianist Gottfried Böttger received his first piano lesson.  Public performances followed shortly thereafter.  When he was 13, he formed his first jazz band and at the end of the 60s with the legendary “Onkel Pö”, he embarked upon his varied career as jazz musician and composer.  In the years that followed, he created such legendary formations as the “Rentnerband”, jazz-pop group “Leinemann” and the “Panikorchester” with Udo Lindenberg.  During these various collaborations, he produced more than 40 records and CDs.  A highlight of his musical education was a course of study that he undertook in 1977 with American blues-pianist Memphis Slim in Paris.

To date, his career has seen collaborations with such renowned artists as Champion Jack Dupree and Memphis Slim, the Boogie-pianist Axel Zwingenberger, jazz pianist Joe Pentzlin, classical pianist Jasmin Böttger, saxophonist Reiner Regel and guitarist Abi Wallenstein.  In August 1993, he performed together with Chuck Berry at the opening ceremony of the athletics world championship in Stuttgart before an enthusiastic audience of 70,000 and a TV broadcast viewed by more than 2 billion people worldwide.

Since its beginning in 1974, he has been regular pianist for the Bremen talk-show “3 nach 9”, Germany’s first programme of its type.

Besides his work in the musical field, he has become involved in MIDI, digital synthesizer, and sampler technologies.  He has also been engaged as specialist at various computer exhibitions in the field of “computers and music”.  Every Thursday at 19:10, his TV reports can be seen on the “DAS-Digital” programme on German’s N3 channel.
